Join Us at the NEDA Walk in Burlington!

Did you know that over 30 million Americans struggle with an eating disorder at some point in their lives?

Despite this statistic, eating disorders receive significantly less funding than other mental health conditions. That means that much-needed resources, support, and treatment are often unaccessible or even completely unavailable. Sufferers and their families, then, are left feeling alone, scared, and hopeless. But that’s where the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) can help.

NEDA is the largest nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families impacted by eating disorders.

Eating disorders don’t discriminate: They affect people of all genders, ages, races, body shapes, weight, religion, ethnicities, and sexual orientations. They have serious, lifelong health implications and the second highest mortality rate of all mental health disorders (with opioid use disorder claiming the top spot). Ultimately, NEDA’s programs and services aim to create a world without eating disorders.

One of their primary fundraising efforts is annual NEDA Walks across the country. This year, they’re proud to host more than 80 walks, including one in our home state. The Kahm Clinic is excited to share that we are a sponsor of the NEDA Walk in Burlington, Vermont. On Sunday, April 30th, we’ll meet at Main Street Landing beginning at 10 a.m. to prepare for the walk at 11 a.m.

NEDA Walks serve three main purposes:

1. Raise awareness.

It’s no secret that a lot of misunderstanding and stigma surrounds eating disorders. Because of these stereotypes and myths, people often avoid professional help, despite desperately needing it. NEDA Walks aim to shine a light on eating disorders as a major public health issue that needs attention and awareness. Together, we can change the conversation about eating disorders!

2. Raise funds.

Through NEDA Walks, participants can contribute to the critical need for funding. Your efforts will support vital patient programs, advocacy efforts, research initiatives, and more. This funding directly impacts those in need and works towards improving prevention, cures, and access to quality care.

3. Find community.

For many individuals, eating disorder treatment can be a lonely experience. NEDA Walks help to connect patients together, creating a community of passionate and strong warriors who are dedicated to their recovery. As one walker shared in his online testimonial, “It’s a celebration that reminds you you’re not alone in your recovery, and there aren’t words to describe the safe and secure feelings that come in being surrounded by people who know what you’ve gone through.”

This year, we’d love for you to join us on the NEDA Walk in Burlington.

If you’re unable to attend but still want to join the fight against eating disorders, consider donating or signing up for another walk location. We hope to see you there!
